Dr. Alia Algazzar

Counsel

Alia Al-Gazzar is a Counsel in the Firm’s International Arbitration Group, a Research Assistant at the American University in Cairo (AUC), and a Lecturer of International Law and Arbitration at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) – School of Law.

Dr. Al-Gazzar specializes in commercial, investment and interstate arbitration. She holds a Ph.D. Degree in International Law from the Graduate Institute for International and Development Studies (IHEID), and an LL.M. from the Geneva Master in International Dispute Settlement (MIDS) in Switzerland.

Dr. Al-Gazzar also attended the “Cologne Academy Summer Course on International Commercial Arbitration” in 2011, and in 2012 she completed the “Private International Law Summer Course of the Hague Academy for International Law” and the “Paris Arbitration Academy Summer Course”.

During Dr. Al-Gazzar’s doctoral studies, she trained in top-tier international arbitration boutiques in Paris and Dubai and acted as legal consultant to a number of international law firms in Geneva, where she handled investor-state, interstate and commercial arbitration disputes under the auspices of various ad hoc and institutional arbitration rules, including the ICSID, DIAC, ICC, UNCITRAL, and SCC.

Dr. Alia is an attorney admitted to practice in Egypt and her working languages are Arabic, English and French.
